About Scott Northmore, Founder, President & Chief Architect
Scott founded MuskokaTech in 2000 working from his Cottage on Lake
Rosseau in Muskoka. There he developed the company's flagship product
PathAway. Scott has extensive
industry experience in devising innovative product strategy and
managing all software development and quality efforts, that lead
to the building of world-class software products and core-technology.
The PathAway product line has continued to be enhanced over the
last few years, and now is at a the leading edge of it's class with
an established and enthusiastic user-base.
Scott has been a leading innovator in the North American software
industry for the past 27 years, during which time he was a part
of the originators of Toronto-based Delrina and MGI Software (TSE:MGI).
His award-winning work has spanned enterprise solutions, consumer
applications, and entertainment software. At Delrina, Scott developed
the Company's first product, PerFORM, an electronic forms software
package, which became the leading product in its class. He continued
to develop the e-forms product line over a 7-year period until the
forms group was sold for $100 million to JetForm (later aquired
by Adobe). Scott also was involved in the creation of other well-known
Delrina products such as FormFlow (corporate workflow forms processing),
WinFax (electronic fax messaging), CyberJack (Internet tools), WinComm
(communications), and Echo Lake (multimedia story publisher).
At MGI Software, as the founding Director of R&D, Scott grew
the development team from a small group to over 60 highly effective
engineers in under 2 years. During his tenure, MGI delivered its
flagship products, PhotoSuite, the world's leading consumer photo
software and VideoWave, the world's most popular consumer video
software. These products received over 200 awards for technical
innovation and provided the bulk of MGI's revenues. Prior to founding
MuskokaTech, he became MGI's Director of Product Strategy and spearheaded
the acquisition of Live Picture, an Internet imaging company, and
developed MGI's mobile applications strategy involving Palm Inc.
MGI's software has since been acquired by SONIC and the MGI products
are now a part of SONIC's key consumer software offerings.
Future Direction
In the future, wireless handheld devices will have more powerful
graphics, better input methods, better screens, built-in GPS, digital
cameras, video capture, and improved audio. But what will not change
significantly are the small form-factor, processing power, reduced
memory, and the limitations they bring. It's been shown that it's
frustrating and time-consuming for users to seek out the information
they require given the limited input and viewing capabilities. MuskokaTech's
key approach to solving this usability problem is by being more
intelligent about understanding what the user wants, and when they
want it.
